Who we are?

SMSA specializes in managing hazardous substance risks, asbestos and chemicals. SMSA can assess your risks, implement controls to safely minimize the risks in your workplace.

SMSA can also train your workers to be aware of the risks, safely identify the hazards, and put control systems in place, to ensure they all go home safely to their families every day.

SMSA provides advice and options that will help you make decisions about being safe and compliant with hazardous substances and chemicals.

SMSA can provide:

Right now, SMSA is working closely with a range of clients across the lower North Island. Asbestos surveys is a high profile activity with assessments, surveys and clearance certification of schools, hospitals, public buildings, residential and demolition properties.

How do we operate?

Excellent networks and working relationships are key to providing you with quality service. The diverse range of skills required means we must engage and include a wide range of technical expertise.

SMSA has established working relationships with:

  • Technical experts in health and safety regulators and officials of relevant regulatory bodies.
  • International suppliers of asbestos management systems and products.
  • Consultants in hazardous substances management.
  • IANZ laboratories for sample analysis.
  • Experts in emergency planning.

SMSA has an asbestos technical expertise with Bruce Wakefield operating from Whanganui City. Bruce has +25 years’ asbestos experience in Australia and NZ.

  • SMSA holds asbestos removal licenses - Class A & Class B licences.
  • Delivers asbestos assessments and surveys

Hazardous substances and chemical safety controls systems under HSNO are overseen by Alan Villarante and Ockie Simmonds:

Alan and Ockie bring together +35 years of solid policy and regulatory and operational experience in Government technical positions. SMSA wants you to have quality operational, technical and regulatory advice. We will use our extensive networks and experience to get you the best. SMSA has developed safe operating procedures to create consistency of purpose in the industry

Relationships & partnerships

To deliver quality advice and solutions will require strong working partnerships with industry, work with regulators and WorkSafe and stakeholders. SMSA has already set off to gather in additional technical partners and expertise.

SMSA has established key asbestos working partnerships covering key skill areas to deliver: SMSA has knocked on many doors including flying across to Australia to secure a supply agreement to supply quality equipment used in asbestos work.

SMSA has partnered with Chemsafe to provide efficient, accurate and speedy HSNO advice about chemical controls. SMSA is also targeting others to come aboard.
